Q&A with Larissa
“How was the workload like in Grenoble?”
7-8 Courses in one semester, some start in January, while some start in March
No assignments, no lab reports (except for 1 course that was just lab reports)
Exam worth 100% , total grades out of 20 marks
Tests are open book,
There is a student-run group that paid to print out all your lecture slides, everybody goes there
“How do you choose courses?”
Dr. Zurob provides a list of coursed that were usually taken by the past exchange students
All coursed provided to exchange students are instructed in English, but If you can speak French, you can choose whatever courses you like
The official course enrolment takes place after your arrival at Grenoble, so don’t worry too much until then
Staff at McMaster will scrutinize the curriculum structure of all the courses you take and assess which ones are equivalent to the core courses at McMaster
If a course cannot not be considered a replacement for core course, it might be taken as a technical or complementary elective
Due to the different education system in France, some courses will be at master level, be prepared for harder contents
All courses taken during your exchange are recorded as Pass/Fail on transcript by default
“What are the strengths of MSE at Grenoble?“
Electronic materials, thin films, electronic materials, nano-scale, 2Q03 materials, etc.
The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) is established in Grenoble
